Dental Cleanings & Hygiene

While maintaining a healthy smile depends upon keeping your teeth and gums clean at home, even those with the most diligent brushing and flossing routines can find it challenging to reach every nook and cranny between the teeth and gums. For this reason, we emphasize the importance of routine dental cleanings.

How dental cleanings protect the health of your smile

Since plaque harbors the bacteria responsible for cavities and gum disease, its removal is essential for maintaining good oral health. Our hygienists and doctors tailor your hygiene frequency based on your specific health needs. In this way, our hygienists can help you maintain a healthy mouth.

Routine dental cleanings offer the following benefits:

  • Keep your smile feeling fresh and clean
  • Prevent cavities and protect your periodontal health
  • Help to reverse gingivitis and restore gum health
  • Support your overall health and well-being

What to expect when getting your teeth cleaned

Rosenstein Gartner Dentistry, PLLC | Oral Cancer Screening, Root Canals and Dental Fillings

Our office uses the leading techniques and technology for healthy and beautiful smiles. Guided Biofilm therapy (GBT) represents the most advanced concept for dental cleanings to address periodontal problems and dental caries at their source—the oral biofilm.

During your dental cleaning, our hygienist will follow the GBT protocol and use its innovative technology to painlessly and completely remove the oral biofilm, discolorations, and calculus from the surface of your teeth and the space between the teeth and gums.

Here's what to expect during your dental cleaning:

  • Assessment: Your visit begins with assessing your oral health and examining your teeth, gums, and any dental implants present to identify areas of concern. We'll have you rinse your smile with BacterX® Pro mouthwash first to get a more accurate look.
  • Disclose: We apply the EMS Biofilm Discloser to highlight the accumulated plaque and biofilm on and around your teeth.
  • Instructiong & Motivation: At this point, we take the opportunity to discuss the findings and provide you with the information, instructions, and resources you need for improving and maintaining good oral hygiene.

Our next steps focus on cleaning the teeth and surrounding tissue

  • AIRFLOW® MAX: During this step, we use a gentle, high-pressured stream of water, air, and fine powder particles to remove biofilm, stains, and early calculus. Unlike conventional cleanings, this step does not involve rubber cups, brushes, or abrasive paste.
  • PERIFLOW® For more significant tartar or calculus buildup, this gentle technology uses high-frequency vibrations and water to reach deeper gum pocket depths.
  • PIEZON® PS This technology offers a comfortable way to remove the remaining calculus.

The GBT protocol wraps up with the following two steps:

  • Final Assessment: After the GBT Procedure, your smile gets re-evaluated to ensure that your teeth and gums are clean and healthy.
  • Recall: Once the cleaning and final assessment are complete, we'll discuss the need and frequency of your recall visits.
